Managing your profile
Update your name, designation, phone, password, and profile image. Why your profile matters
Your profile in Laminar represents you across the entire system. It determines:
- How your name appears in activity timelines
- What initials or photo appear in the top bar
- How teammates recognize your actions
- How the system communicates with you
- Which organisations you belong to
Keeping your profile up to date ensures clarity, professionalism, and smoother day-to-day collaboration.
This guide covers everything you can manage within the My Profile section—including updating personal details, changing your password, managing your avatar, and setting your theme preference.
Accessing the My Profile page
You can reach your profile from anywhere in Laminar:
- Click your avatar in the top-right corner
- A panel opens—select My Profile
- You’re taken to
/profile
The page is divided into clear sections focusing on your personal information, login credentials, appearance preferences, and (in some setups) organisation context.
Overview of what you can update
Your profile page generally includes:
- Name
- Designation (optional)
- Email (read-only)
- Phone (optional)
- Profile picture / avatar
- Password
- Theme preferences (Light, Dark, System)
Each section is designed to be simple, safe, and familiar.
Updating your basic information
Name
Your name appears:
- In the top bar
- In activity timelines
- In order, supplier, BOM, and project histories
- In organisation user lists
Keep this accurate and properly capitalised.
Designation
Optional, but helpful. Shows your functional role (e.g., “Procurement Lead”, “Design Engineer”, “Project Manager”). Appears in places where someone might need to understand your context.
Phone
Optional but useful if your organisation uses Laminar heavily across departments. Visible only internally to your organisation; not shared externally.
Editing your information
To update any of these:
- Go to My Profile
- Click Edit
- Modify the fields you want
- Save your changes
Updates apply instantly.
Tip Using a consistent naming convention (e.g., full name rather than initials) helps teammates quickly recognise you across modules.
Email address (read-only)
Your email is set when your user account is created. It cannot be changed from My Profile because it is your primary login identity.
If your email needs updating, speak to your organisation’s admin—they may update it through Laminar’s admin controls.
Uploading and managing your profile image
Your profile picture appears:
- In the top navigation bar
- Throughout activity timelines
- In popovers and user lists
- In organisation user views
If no image is uploaded, Laminar displays your initials.
To upload or change your photo
- Open My Profile
- Click your avatar
- Select Upload
- Choose a JPG or PNG file
- Confirm to save
Good practices
- Clear headshots work best
- Avoid overly large images to ensure fast loading
- Use a consistent style across your team for a professional feel
Note Your avatar is cached automatically for smooth performance. Uploading a new picture updates it everywhere instantly.
Changing your password
Your password keeps your account secure, and you can change it anytime.
To update your password:
- Open My Profile
- Scroll to the Password section
- Click Change Password
- Enter your current password
- Set your new password
- Confirm and save
Laminar ensures passwords meet the system’s strength requirements.
When to change your password
- If you’ve shared your device
- After organisational off-boarding events
- If you suspect someone else knows your password
- As part of regular security hygiene
Tip Use a password manager so you don’t have to remember complex passwords.
Theme preferences (Light, Dark, System)
Laminar supports full theme switching. You can choose:
Light Mode
Bright, clean appearance—best for well-lit spaces.
Dark Mode
Low-glare interface—ideal for evening work or long sessions.
System Mode
Follows the theme of your device automatically.
To change your theme:
- Go to My Profile
- Scroll to the Appearance or Theme section
- Select your preferred theme
- The UI updates instantly
Laminar remembers your choice every time you log in.
Understanding your organisation context
If you belong to multiple organisations, the My Profile page shows:
- The organisation you’re currently working in
- A way to switch between them from the avatar menu
- A list of your roles (Viewer, Editor, Manager, Super Admin) based on module access
Not all users will see this—only those who belong to multiple orgs or have elevated permissions.
What you cannot change from My Profile
For security and organisational reasons, certain information is controlled elsewhere:
- Email (set by admin)
- Organisation settings
- User roles and permissions
- Organisation membership
If you need changes in these areas, contact your Laminar admin.
How profile updates appear across Laminar
Profile changes update instantly across the system:
- Your name updates in timelines and detail screens
- Your avatar updates in comments, activity logs, and navigation
- Your theme choice applies across lists, forms, and modules
- Password changes apply to your next login
This keeps everything consistent regardless of when or where updates are made.

Common issues and solutions
“My email is incorrect, but I can’t edit it.”
Email is admin-controlled. Contact your organisation’s admin to update it.
“My avatar isn’t updating.”
Try refreshing the page—your browser may have cached the older image.
“I can’t change my password.”
Check that:
- You entered the current password correctly
- Your new password meets requirements If problems persist, try logging out and back in.
“My theme changed unexpectedly.”
If you selected System, Laminar follows your device’s theme settings.
“Changes saved but aren’t reflected.”
Verify that you’re in the correct organisation. Profile fields apply per user, not per organisation.
